What is Children's Mental Health Matters?

Low-income children, youth and families receive mental health services at no cost. Licensed mental health professionals volunteer their time at community host site agencies where children are already receiving other services unrelated to mental health.

Professionals are individually matched with treatment sites according to their specialty, their preference, and site need. These needs include individual, group, or family therapy for host site clients, and training and consultation for host site staff.

Children's Mental Health Crisis

One in five children in Colorado experience mental health issues each year. Unfortunately, only one-third of these children receive intervention. Children's Mental Health Matters was created in response to the increasing number of children in Colorado without access to mental health

Need For Volunteers

Children's Mental Health Matters is always looking for licensed mental health professionals to volunteer. Volunteers are recruited from many disciplines including:

clinical social workers, psychologists, certified play therapists, marriage and family therapists, licensed professional counselors, art therapists, and addiction counselors.

Volunteers agree to provide a minimum of 4 hours per month. They are matched to a host-site and are supported by a liaison and MHA program staff. Please consider volunteering.

Why Volunteer?

  • Directly interact with children that lack mental health resources
  • Gain professional experience
  • Give limited time in a structured environment
  • Make a difference to a defined population of at-risk children
  • Stay connected to the mental health field after retirement
